In my photographic search through many shrines seeking places of worship, that contain the energy of the Divine, I headed to Mount Athos, a place, which carries energy coming by one thousand years of monastic life. During all these years, on Mount Athos have been built twenty monasteries and communities where monks have been praying daily in an effort to reach the Divinity and come into union with God. The place is imbued with the divine energy that pervades everything.

While staying in Mount Athos I am flooded by an inner harmony. In the churches I feel the opening of my heart which leads me to the photographic representation of the energy of the icons, on which for hundreds of years monks have sung hymns to God.

Using a meditative process of approaching the energy of the icons, I transform them into my own portraits. Standing in front of the icons I feel like they talk to me and that I need to capture these figures.

I continue to photograph the sacred images, the internal harmony of each of these, the dual reality that goes beyond any opposition that occurs between good and evil. I confront them as people that stand independently without any characterization, touching holiness, forgiving every thought and feeling, wrapped in the mystery of luminous darkness.
